Considered as the center and the main landmark of Jakarta, Monas towers 132 meters high over the Merdeka Square. The monument is topped by a glittering flame that symbolizes the nation's independence. Visitors can go up to the top and see Jakarta from a completely different perspective. On the base of Monas, you can check out the National History Museum that tells a story of Indonesia's independence struggle in dioramas. On the west side of the Merdeka Square, you can also check out the National Museum. Built in 1862, it has been considered as the best in Indonesia, with a collection of Indonesian ethnics, cultural objects, and remnants from pre-Indonesia kingdom period.
Jakarta fair held annually in Jakarta International Expo (JIE) Kemayoran, in June and July. It features exhibitions, trade promotions, shopping, music performances, various shows, amusement rides and a food festival.
